Since it is not recommended for people to travel right now then you should not be traveling but, we are all wanting to leave the house so here is a guide on how to have a vacation while at home. Make your house more like a hotel room by decluttering your home and only keeping what is necessary. A clean space can feel like a new space and can declutter your mind. Use scent to simulate the smell that you would want to be smelling while on vacation. Use items such as candles, incense, essential oils, plants, flowers, or fresh herbs. You can use different scents throughout the day that relate to what you are doing. Role-play room service and reenact the hotel service that you would get if you were staying in a hotel. If you are vacationing at home with someone else you could trade off who is the guest and who is the person providing the hotel service. If you are vacationing at home alone, you can service yourself as if you would be serviced at a hotel. Make you bathroom more like a hotel bathroom and include the amenities that are in hotel rooms such as clean towels, bath robes, and bath slippers. Change the things that you listen to in order to reflect what you would listen to if you were on vacation. Do the things that you normally do on vacation at home such as laying on a beach towel in your backyard to simulate going to the beach, reading outside or doing exercises you might do at a wellness resort. Sleep like you would on vacation and sleep in. Take a bath, drink relaxing tea, light candles, practice yoga, meditate or read a book before bed. Photo Sources:

We want you prepared to be safe from the moment you leave your home until you return, and since some of that time will be spent at the airport here's our top 10 tips: 1. Look up the airport before -I know this one seems a little extra but you would be surprised how helpful it is to know the layout of an airport before you go there. One time I was traveling by myself from Phoenix to Spokane, and I didn’t look up the layout before I got there. My phone was dying and I’m wandering around the San Francisco airport trying to find my connection gate. I had to leave my terminal, walk through a parking garage/ rental car lot, and then re-enter security at another terminal all during my one hour layover. I was so scared walking through the parking garage by myself, hoping that i’m following the right sign to my gate. So look up your airport beforehand, understand the layout that way you don’t get lost and risk an unsafe situation. 2. Take selfies instead of asking a stranger to take your picture -Feel free to take as many selfies as you want, you are traveling it's fun and exciting. However, avoid asking a stranger to take a picture of you. You don’t know what that person might be doing on your phone that contains all your personal information. Your phone has information on who you are, where you are from, and where you are going. That information in the wrong hands could put you in a very dangerous situation. That stranger could also steal your phone, leaving you without a way to contact anyone if you need help. 3.Take phone calls in private, not public -If you are going to call a friend and describe your vacation in great detail, make sure you are alone. You don’t want a stranger to hear that you are by yourself, staying at this hotel, and have your whole itinerary. 4. Pretend to be with a group -Unfortunately this is a tip that I have had to use too many times. If you are feeling unsafe at all, especially during an overnight layover at the airport, make it look like you are with the family next to you or a part of a big group. You can either just sit near them, walk behind them, or if necessary tell the family/group what's going on and that you feel unsafe. You can also go up to airport security and ask for an escort to your gate, this is very helpful if the airport is empty. 5.Avoid late night flights -I know that it's so tempting to buy the cheapest flight even if that means you are at the airport at 4am. Don’t do it, spend the extra money to make sure that you are safe. You don’t want to be arriving in a new destination, especially a new country in the dead of night trying to find an Uber. There will be less people at the airport, less options for public transportation, and you will be tired and not thinking as clearly. 6. Pack Light -You want to be able to get from point A to point B the easiest and fastest way you can. Having to drag three suitcases and a backpack with you, gives more opportunity for danger and theft. Plus, overpacking is a real thing and I guarantee you don’t need four suitcases for a week long trip. 7.Wear dark or bland clothing, you want to blend in not stick out -You want to blend in with the crowd and not be an easy target for danger. Its better to wear a grey sweatshirt than a neon yellow one that can be spotted across the airport. 8.Be careful napping -When you absolutely have to take a nap, here are the steps: 1.Choose a populated area like a gate, don’t sleep in a secluded area alone. 2.Secure all belongings, especially your phone, ID/wallet, and your plane ticket. Put it all in your backpack and sleep on top of it to keep it safe. 3.Set alarms to make sure you don’t miss your flight 4.Keep at least one ear free if you choose to wear headphones 9. Make sure someone knows where you are and your itinerary -Always give a trusted friend or family member your full itinerary including flight information, where you are staying, how to reach you, etc. Now, there is someone who will know where you are in case something goes wrong. 10. Trust your instincts -You know that gut feeling you get when something doesn’t feel right. TRUST THAT FEELING. Remove yourself from the situation, always stay in a well populated area, or talk to airport security; just trust your instincts. Better safe than sorry. HAVE A SAFE TRIP! Learn more about hours and admission at https://byodo-in.com/admission.htm Many know of Oktoberfest as an almost month-long drinking festival, however, it is much more than that. Today we will discuss the history of Oktoberfest and if your dirndl is offensive. Oktoberfest first began in October of 1810, when the Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig) married Princess Therese on October 12th. All of Munich was invited to join in the festivities in the fields in front of the city. Those fields were named Theresienwiese (Therese Meadows) after the princess and have kept the name since, although most use the shortened version of Wiesn. After the wedding horse races were held on the 18th of October in honor of the newlyweds. While the exact origins and ideas for this kind of celebration are still widely argued, some think the idea stemmed from Major Andreas Michael Dall’Armi while others argue Sergent Franz Baumgartner first proposed the celebrations, everyone agreed to continue the traditions the next year thus beginning the tradition of Oktoberfest. Over the years the festival has evolved and changed, such as adding a parade in 1850 and the adding of beer halls at the end of the 19th century. The festival is traditionally Bavarian but many cities have their own smaller version of the festival. Now in Bavaria the traditional attire to wear to Oktoberfest is dirndls for women and lederhosen for men. A dirndl is a traditional bavarian dress, made up of a tight bodice, low neckline with a blouse worn underneath, and an apron over the waist. Now you may have seen dirndls in costume stores, however, they are labeled as milkmaid costumes or beer wench costumes. This is where things start to become offensive for Bavarians. The costumes many foreigners wear to Oktoberfest are not dirndls, rather than a cheap and sexy version of it. The blouses are low cut, off the shoulder or they don’t wear a blouse at all and the hemlines of the skirt are well above the knees with knee-high stockings as an accessory. They take a beautiful traditional outfit and turn it into a sexy Halloween costume then show up to Oktoberfest in it. Please do not show up in outfits such as the ones below. While many people do not realize that dirndls are not meant to be sexy, I feel it is one’s duty to research the culture of the country they are visiting before dressing up in their traditional outfits. So if you plan on attending Oktoberfest and are shopping for a dirndl to wear, please keep in mind that these dresses were meant to be modest, not sexy Halloween costumes. Amazon does happen to carry traditional dirndls but they also carry the costume versions so be aware of that. Now let’s say you’ve done your research, you’ve found the perfect dirndl and you are getting ready to attend Oktoberfest. Well before you get ready let’s talk about how to tie your apron and traditional ways to style your hair. It is an urban legend that has been passed down from generation to generation that the way you tie the knot on your apron signifies your material status. Your apron should tie in the front if you are an adult woman, young girls are meant to tie theirs in the back. Then if you are single and eligible you tie your apron on the left side but if you are married, engaged, or uninterested in dating you tie your apron on the right side. If you see a woman walking around with her apron tied in the front middle it most likely means she is a waitress. In Bavaria braids are traditional hairstyles, I often chose to wear a braid crown with my hair half up half down. However there isn’t an offensive way to wear your hair, any style will do but traditionally it was worn with some style of braid. That is all for the topic of dirndls at Oktoberfest, I hope you enjoyed this post and will think twice about your dirndl purchase. Planning on visiting Oahu, Hawaii in the near future? Possibly after the pandemic? As a local, I wanted to share the aloha spirit and share some of the best local places to eat or grab a snack from!
Hi Worldwide Sisters! When preparing and booking vacations there are so many options to choose from. Today we will be talking about one of those options; Hostels and Hotels and which might be best for you. To start, let's go over what a hostel is, and then one compared to a hotel. Hostel: This is low-cost temporary housing where you typically rent one bed in a common area that you share with fellow travelers. Here is a hostel listing in London, United Kingdom. Their listing features that they have prices as low as $26.96 USD a night. And for this price they have many amenities, as well as being a short walk away from the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. The price is more affordable compared to a hotel and certain hostels have the same amenities. By staying in a hostel you have the benefit of living with other travelers, and meeting new people from around the world. But they are not for everyone, some downsides would be that depending on where you stay, finding privacy or alone/quiet time can be difficult, there are shared bathrooms, unknown roommates, and if the hostel does not provide lockers there is a risk of theft (this one does provide lockers). Hotel: They offer more privacy and they are easier to find compared to hostels. Here is a hotel around the same area as the hostel we previously looked at, but this is advertised to cost $155 USD a night. They are more expensive than hostels but they offer a familiar situation, privacy, amenities (vary on hotel and location), and space. Overall, it is a personal decision on where you feel safe staying for your traveling. If you do not like going back to an empty hotel room at the end of a day spent exploring, then hostels might be something to consider. It depends on what you enjoy, if you like to meet new people, and are extroverted then there are positives to hostels, but if you do not enjoy being surrounded by new people and prefer quiet time then hotels might be a better fit. Safety is the #1 priority when traveling so picking a place to stay is important and will take research depending on the area as well, and what you are comfortable with.
